What goes into a specification for a leather wallet?

The details to write down before a leather wallet sample is cut, and the four places where cheap wallets fail first.

The short answerWrite down the style, the leather type, grain and colour, the lining, the card slots, coin pocket and ID window, the stitching and edge finish, the logo method, the packing, the quantity and the destination. Agree the whole sheet in writing before a sample is cut, then inspect the bulk against it.

A wallet gets sat on, bent open and pushed into a pocket every day. A good one lasts for years. The difference is decided on paper, before the first sample is cut.

Where cheap wallets fail

Cheap wallets fail in the same few places:

  • the edge paint cracks
  • the lining peels
  • a card slot stretches until the cards slide out

So those points go into the written specification, and the finished wallets are inspected against that sheet before they are packed.

What to write down

  1. Style: bifold, trifold or slim card-and-note.
  2. Leather: the type, the grain and the colour. Kolkata's workshops make wallets in full-grain and top-grain cow leather and in goat leather. If you want vegetable-tanned hides, which darken as they are used, say so.
  3. Lining: the material, or none.
  4. Inside: the number of card slots, sized to the cards your market uses, a coin pocket, an ID window.
  5. Stitching and edges: the stitch colour and count, and whether edges are painted or burnished.
  6. Logo: blind emboss, foil or none.
  7. Packing: gift box, pouch or bulk.
  8. Quantity and destination.

We add the measurements and agree the whole sheet with you in writing before a sample is cut.

A shortcut

Already sell a wallet you like? A photograph of it with your message saves a page of description. Your own drawing or tech pack is even better.

About price

We do not publish prices, because a wallet's price moves with every line above. Send us the details and we quote in writing. Every quote names the trade term and the handover place in Kolkata, so you can compare it fairly with other offers.

Ask for a quote on wallets. We reply by email within a working day.
